ACT UP at 40: an evening for World AIDS Day.

An evening for World AIDS Day 2026 at the Schwules Museum. The museum brings together experienced activists and a new generation of organizers to mark four decades of radical HIV/AIDS activism by ACT UP and ask what can be learned from it today. It presents the ACT UP at 40: Celebrating Resistance and Demanding Healthcare for All — Calendar 2027, which combines previously unpublished photos and footage from ACT UP chapters worldwide with daily reminders of protests, followed by a conversation with activists, the calendar's designers, museum representatives and Berlin-based activists currently fighting police harassment and for the freedom of LGBTQIA+ and HIV-positive people. The title "Fire Under the Ass" comes from an expression popularized by Berlin ACT UP co-founder Andreas Salmen and asks what remains of the radical spirit that transformed the German AIDS movement between 1989 and 1993.
