About

“Queerinnert – Community Building in Ost-Berlin von LGBTQIA+ Zeitzeug*innen erzählt” is a discussion event in which contemporary witnesses share their experiences of queer spaces and movements. It looks at how queer structures were built in East Berlin before 1990, when LGBTQIA+ people in the GDR had to get by without civil rights, public representation or meeting places, and what can be learned from those experiences. The event is moderated by Barbara Wallbraun, a cultural educator and filmmaker of the documentary “Uferfrauen-Lesbisches L(i)eben in der DDR”. Guests are Samirah Kenawi, founder of the GrauZone archive, Peter Rausch, founder of the Homosexuellen Interessensgemeinschaft Ost-Berlin, and Nadja Schallenberg, a trans* human rights activist.
