About
The Global History Colloquium at the Friedrich-Meinecke-Institut of Freie Universität Berlin is a lecture series hosting Emmanuel Kreike (Princeton University), who presents his project "Time-Traveling Trees". He introduces a method for machine-reading archival aerial photographs to study environmental and climate change of the 1940s to 1990s. Eight case studies from three continents serve to produce training data sets for machine learning. The talk also shows how oral history, the oldest form of history, and computational history using AI depend on each other.
