Kuku Schrappnell reads »Gender Punks«: queer lives retold.

At the bookshop Die Buchkönigin, Kuku Schrapnell reads from the book »Gender Punks« and talks with the audience afterwards. The book follows historical trans and intersex people from the 17th to the 20th century, tracing the lives of queer icons such as Anastasius Lagrantinus Rosenstengel, Romaine-la-Prophétesse, Lucy Hicks Anderson and the Danshō Okiyo. It asks what gender is at all, and shows people who resisted rule and oppression, first personally and then collectively, in a world where patriarchy and capitalism reinforce each other. Their fates are wrested from court and medical records and retold in solidarity and with love.
