A stage evening about the couplet singer Otto Reutter, who left Gardelegen at the end of the 19th century and won over Berlin with songs about everyday life and gallows humour. The book and direction are by Barbara Abend, the musical arrangement by Ute Falkenau; Carl Martin Spengler acts and sings, with Jürgen Beyer at the piano. The piece tells how Reutter, in a city full of parades, war cries and the "golden twenties", sang straight from people's hearts, and how he rescued censored punchlines by coughing them out while the whole hall coughed along. The performance lasts 2 hours 10 minutes including an intermission.
