Porträtwerkstatt

Porträtwerkstatt is a hands-on workshop for families with children aged six to twelve at the Gemäldegalerie, a Berlin museum of painting from the 13th to the 18th century. It is run by the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin as part of its series „Rein ins Studio! Workshops für Familien | 2026“, alongside the exhibition „Porträts! Überraschende Begegnungen von Botticelli bis Lempicka“. In the exhibition the group looks closely at portraits and at what clothing, colours and objects reveal about the people shown, and at how artists have depicted people from different eras. Afterwards everyone designs their own portrait or an entirely new figure, experimenting with colours, shapes and materials; the meeting point is the foyer, places are limited and online booking is recommended.
