The Bliss of Rain

"The Bliss of Rain" is a solo exhibition of fourteen new paintings by Anne Griffiths. Its starting point was an evening after rain showers on Vancouver Island, when the artist smelled the wet earth and heard birds singing so joyfully it sounded like a celebration. The paintings depict not so much the rain itself but how it is experienced, in landscape and body, almost every composition built around a waterline with forest above and reflection below. Griffiths works quickly and entirely from memory, and rain becomes a moment of respite, a source of hope and continuation.
