About
The Uprising – Für die Freiheit is a drama, historical film and war film about the Peasants' Revolt of 1381. In fourteenth-century England, after a devastating wave of plague, the simple farmer Ploughman joins a group of rebels led by Wat Tyler and the charismatic preacher John Ball. The insurgents march on London, where anger at the tyrannical rule of the young King Richard II. erupts into brutal fighting. Paul Greengrass's film shows whether the peasants can win their struggle for freedom and equality.

Critics
6.8Good
Critics praise the urgent, visceral direction, committed performances and contemporary resonance of its class-rage themes. They fault the awkward blending of history with Robin Hood legend, thin characterisation, and distracting handheld camerawork.
