About

As part of the international Palestine Cinema Days, Kamal Aljafari's award-winning film With Hasan in Gaza is screened, followed by a talk with the director via Zoom. The Palestinian filmmaker, based in Berlin, discovered MiniDV tapes documenting life in Gaza in 2001. From this footage came an unexpected road trip through Gaza with Hasan, a local guide, and a reflection on memory and loss. The event is presented together with ALFILM and replaces the ALFILM Wednesday in November.

Critics

The critic praises the captivating reworked 2001 footage for its urgent resonance with today's Gaza, its affecting verité imagery and evocative score. Minor criticism is aimed at the withheld initial motive and the sparse, occasionally intrusive written narration.
