A Polish woman's chance proximity to a German man at a beach resort awakens memories of her imprisonment in Auschwitz. She intensively relives the short story of her friendship with a fellow prisoner, who, after a tragic incident, entered the camp voluntarily as penance for an oath. Instead of a conversation with her beach neighbour, she has a vision of one predetermined by her memories, unfolding as an inner dialogue.
