An Introduction to Deep Time: the quest to date the Earth.
About
An Introduction to Deep Time is a live, expert-led online evening session from the Geological Society's Night School, exploring how scientists worked out the age of the Earth. It is taught by Prof. Jon Gluyas, a Durham University geologist with a background in the petroleum industry and academia, and traces attempts to date the Earth, from Bishop Ussher's biblical counting to Lord Kelvin's cooling calculations and Arthur Holmes's use of radioactivity. The session lasts about two hours, needs no previous knowledge, and takes place via Zoom with no recording available.
