Flamsteed Lecture: Stephen Eales on the Herschel mission.
About
A Flamsteed Astronomy Society lecture held at the National Maritime Museum. Astrophysicist Stephen Eales, a professor at Cardiff who led one of the largest observing programmes of the Herschel Space Observatory, tells the story of the mission. He draws on interviews he conducted with scientists after the observatory observed the sky from 2010 to 2013, and on his book 'The Ghost in the Telescope'. The talk covers discoveries about the origin of stars, galaxies and water, and the human story behind the science.
