About
Angel's Egg is a 1985 Japanese anime feature in which a girl in an underwater city cares for a large egg, until a boy with a gun arrives in search of a bird from his dream. It was written and directed by Mamoru Oshii and created with artist Yoshitaka Amano, blending reflections on philosophy and theology with Amano's ink painting style into a hand-drawn allegorical fantasy. It stars Keiichi Noda, Mako Hyodo and Jinpachi Nezu, and runs 71 minutes.

Critics
7.7Very good
Critics praise the film's exquisite hand-drawn visuals, hypnotic atmosphere, symbolism and mature, Tarkovsky-like seriousness. They fault its near-impenetrable allegory, minimal plot and dialogue, glacial pace and general inaccessibility for ordinary viewers.
