Cherry Ge gives a one-hour lunchtime piano recital at Wigmore Hall, without an interval. The pianist performs music by Olivier Messiaen, Sergey Prokofiev and Samuel Barber, promoted by the Royal Academy of Music. Framed by Messiaen's vivid bird portraits from the Catalogue d'oiseaux, the programme about colour, texture and the everyday world combines Prokofiev's Visions fugitives with Barber's witty, refined Excursions. The three composers all found the extraordinary within the ordinary.
