About
Caméra d’Afrique is a landmark history of African cinema, tracing the emergence of a generation of filmmakers determined to challenge colonial images of the continent and tell their own stories. Directed by Férid Boughedir, it follows the rise of African cinema after independence through archival footage, film excerpts and interviews with pioneering directors, from its political and social struggles to its search for new cinematic voices and forms. The result is a vibrant portrait of a transformative moment in African film and a powerful reminder of cinema’s role in reclaiming the right to represent oneself, an essential film about the birth of modern African cinema. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the director.
