Christmas Lates: festive evenings at Dr Johnson's House.
About
Christmas Lates are festive evening visits to Dr Johnson's House, a 1690s townhouse where Dr Samuel Johnson wrote his Dictionary of the English Language. Visitors can enjoy the festively decorated historic rooms with a sparkling drink, cosy up in a window seat, hear how the Georgians celebrated Christmas and shop for Christmas gifts. The house at 17 Gough Square, built shortly after the Great Fire, retains many original features including a quirky anti-burglary device. Guests are welcome to arrive and depart as they like while raising a glass to the man who declared: "When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life."
