About

Exhibition: Painted Faces is the debut solo exhibition of theatrical portraits by Clare Williams, shown in the Visitors' Book Café Bar at Woolwich Works. Drawing on 40 years of working in theatre, the portraits explore a world of artifice where costume and a painted face allow a new story to be told. Williams paints quickly and instinctively onto wooden panels without preliminary sketches, 'becoming' each character before reducing, rebuilding and reconstructing the work over a long process. The paintings are available for sale at the café/bar counter, with prices ranging from £95 to £995.
