About
An opening evening for the exhibition Five lines of song-smoke at Frith Street Gallery. It centres on a new five-channel sound and video installation by the artist Jaki Irvine, 28 minutes long and looped. Irvine invited musicians, including Izumi Kimura on piano and Joe O'Farrell on flute, to improvise to a moving graphic score she filmed and generated, drawing on small details of ordinary occurrences in her home environment and a 1925 song, 'Show me the Way to Go Home', which the musicians were asked to play in the shadow of rather than replicate.
