About

ResearchWorks: Bridging Two Musical Worlds Through Improvisation is a free, in-person and online event with discussion, experiment and performance exploring improvisation between jazz and classical musicians. Pianist and classical improvisation professor David Dolan and Greek jazz saxophonist Dimitrios Vassilakis improvise together while keeping their own musical languages, joined by an AI component reacting to what they play. With the audience, they ask what listening and a meaningful musical response are, where creativity and surprise arise, and who leads or follows. It is part of ResearchWorks, Guildhall School's programme sharing its research with students, staff and the public.
