About

An exhibition of paintings by Francis Hamel at John Martin Gallery. It is the result of two extensive journeys through Japan, in autumn 2025 and spring 2026. The sixty paintings range from the gardens and temples of Kyoto and Kanazawa to mountain forests, rivers, farms, city streets and the landscapes of northern Honshu and Shikoku. Across two contrasting seasons, Hamel explores the dialogue between the composed artistry of the Japanese garden and the natural landscape.
