Harry Jassby – Annual Remembrance Service
Oaks Lane Reform Synagogue, Oaks Lane 8, IG2 7RS Ilford, Newbury Park
About
An annual remembrance service for Second Lieutenant Harry Jassby, a Canadian Jewish pilot of the First World War buried at St. Peter's Church on Oaks Lane. Student Rabbi Jennifer conducts the service, which is run by Oaks Lane Reform Synagogue. Jassby, originally from Montreal, was killed on 6 November 1918, days before the Armistice, and is the sole Jewish airman in the graveyard. The service gained added meaning when former Rabbi Nancy Morris was found to be related to the Jassby family.
