John Byrne: Blurred Boundaries
The Fine Art Society, New Bond Street 148, London, Mayfair
About
An exhibition of painted furniture by artist John Byrne, shown alongside a group of paintings, drawings and prints by him and by artists in his collection. Byrne follows a long tradition of artist-painted furniture, from folk art to the Bloomsbury group, decorating functional household objects. His recurring painted oak leaf adorns a mid-century cabinet, portraits appear of his companions Thistle the house rabbit and Misha the dog, and an autumnal tree sheds its leaves like confetti across wardrobe doors.
