About
A lunchtime concert at St Margaret's Church, Westminster Abbey, celebrating the music of Henry Purcell, the Abbey's most famous organist. The St Margaret's Consort, directed by Greg Morris, performs some of Purcell's finest church music alongside his solo songs from the stage as realised by Benjamin Britten. Purcell, organist of the Abbey from 1679 to 1695, was lamented after his early death as the 'Orpheus Britannicus' and excelled in every genre of his day. Britten, a composer whom Purcell greatly influenced, adorned the solo songs with his own imaginative piano accompaniments.
