Pride The Musical is a stage musical telling the true story of gay and lesbian activists who supported striking miners during the strikes of 1984. Matthew Warchus and Stephen Beresford, who made the 2014 film, reunited to bring the story to the stage alongside composers Christopher Nightingale, Josh Cohen, and DJ Wilde. In summer 1984, activist Mark Ashton rallies a divided group of gay men and lesbians to support the striking miners, leading them to a small pit village in South Wales where the two threatened communities discover they have more in common than they imagined. The show features original songs inspired by protest anthems, pop, rock, disco and the Welsh choral tradition, and played at the National Theatre before transferring.
