About

An evening of music and readings crossing Bengal, Assam and Bangladesh, held as part of Bloomsbury Festival 2026. Singers Sahana Bajpaie and Sohini Alam perform with rising star Urvi Sharma, double bassist Ben Heartland, percussionist Himanish Goswami and guitarist and composer Olly Weeks, who has written new arrangements. The programme includes readings from Somnath Batabyal's epic historical novel Red River, Bengali boat songs, Assamese festival songs, songs from lower Assam and the tea gardens, and songs of liberation from 1971. Laura Hammond opens the evening, and Rohit Dasgupta talks with the author; chai and samosas will be served and copies of the book available.
