Talks and readings
Symposium rethinking Robert Ryman's near-white paintings.
About
A half-day symposium marking the major Robert Ryman retrospective at the Barbican Art Gallery. Organised by Professor Jo Applin, Director of The Courtauld's Centre for the Art of the Americas, it revisits and rethinks the American painter's work, connections and legacy from a range of perspectives. For almost 60 years Ryman made paintings without pictorial or symbolic content, focusing on the physical properties of materials and their effects, and exploring the basic assumptions of painting itself. Speakers include Indie A. Choudhury, Briony Fer, Pia Gottschaller and David Gray.
