Somewhere between a doll and a dog by Ezekiel
Institute of Contemporary Arts, The Mall, London, Covent Garden
About
A book launch and talk celebrating the release of Ezekiel's Somewhere between a doll and a dog, with a book signing and an intimate conversation hosted by SMUT with ICA Artist Development Resident Maite de Orbe. The book is an unflinching, confessional, and diaristic archive of transness, shot across the UK, Europe, the USA and the Philippines, positioning transness as a fluid state that transcends borders, binaries and Western frameworks. As a first-generation immigrant, Ezekiel returned to their country of birth after ten years to reconnect with pre-colonial attitudes towards gender. The three-year visual diary blends diary fragments, archival family portraits, ephemera, moments in hyper-masculine spaces and tender images of trans friends and lovers.
