The Edges of Cinema: Book Launch + little boy
Institute of Contemporary Arts, The Mall, London, Covent Garden
About
An evening celebrating the publication of Erika Balsom's book 'The Edges of Cinema: Essays on Twenty-First Century Film Culture', paired with the London premiere of James Benning's film 'little boy'. Balsom's essay collection argues that film culture thrives on the margins, from visual art and documentary to experimental and repertory cinema. Benning, an artist and filmmaker central to the book, uses popular songs, political speeches and architectural models to traverse decades of U.S. history. The film, winner of the grand prize at Paris's Cinéma du Réel festival, looks at the past to warn about the future, from a little boy's point of view.
