About
A concert bringing together six viola players with piano and harpsichord, crowning Timothy Ridout's Viola Day. The performers are Timothy Ridout, Hélène Clément, Ting-Ru Lai, Matthew Lipman, Eivind Ringstad and Georgy Kovalev on viola, with James Baillieu on piano and George Herbert on harpsichord. The programme celebrates the viola's versatility and repertoire, including Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 6 in a version for five violas, George Benjamin's Viola, Viola, York Bowen's rarely performed Fantasie Quartet, and Frank Bridge's Lament, first played at Wigmore Hall with Lionel Tertis in 1912. It closes with Benjamin Dale's Introduction and Andante for six violas, written for Tertis and his RAM class, and runs about two hours with an interval.
