Together on this Island: Émigré Art Networks in Britain
Austrian Cultural Forum, Rutland Gate 28, London, Knightsbridge
About
Together on this Island: Émigré Art Networks in Britain is a display telling the stories of émigrés, most of them Jewish, who came to Britain in the 1930s and 40s seeking refuge from the Nazis. It is presented with material from Tate Library and Archive as part of the Émigré Art Archives Project, funded by the Marie-Louise von Motesiczky Charitable Trust. The display shows how artists, art dealers, writers and teachers who fled Nazi Europe contributed to artistic culture in Britain. Highlights include rarely seen works by Oskar Kokoschka, Kurt Schwitters, Jankel Adler, Josef Herman, Marie-Louise von Motesiczky and Franciszka Themerson.
