About

Transnational Diaries: a conversation across borders is an interdisciplinary roundtable held in and around the Transnational Diaries exhibition at the Peltz Gallery at Birkbeck. It brings together researchers from across Birkbeck, including Dr Jackie Lou, Dr Mara Nogueira, Dr Olivia Sheringham and Prof Sophia Price, to discuss migration, mobility, urban life and everyday globalisation. The exhibition behind it portrays Chinese migrant traders running family-owned shops in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and was developed through collaborative workshops with first- and second-generation migrants, emerging from Mara Nogueira's project Globalisation from Below. Through conversation with the exhibition, the roundtable considers how migration, trade, belonging and urban change shape contemporary cities and connect everyday lives across the globe.
