About
Viola Day is a chamber concert devoted to the viola, with works for two to five violas by composers including Alessandro Rolla, Beethoven, Alan Shulman and Dvořák. It is led by violist Timothy Ridout, Wigmore Hall's Associate Artist, joined by fellow violists Hélène Clément, Ting-Ru Lai, Matthew Lipman, Eivind Ringstad and Georgy Kovalev, with pianist James Baillieu. The programme opens with Rolla's Duo in F and includes Lionel Tertis's arrangement for three violas of Beethoven's Trio in C Op. 87, originally for two oboes and cor anglais. Shulman's Theme and Variations and Sancho Egnaño's arrangement of Dvořák's Czech Suite round off this roughly hour-long concert without interval.
