We Have Always Lived in the Castle: a gothic stage thriller.
About
A stage adaptation of Shirley Jackson's gothic thriller and final novel, presented as a world premiere production. Alistair McDowall adapts and Sarah Frankcom directs the story of eighteen-year-old Merricat Blackwood, who lives in isolation on the family estate with her agoraphobic sister and ailing uncle as the only survivors of a family tragedy. Ostracised by the nearby villagers, the sisters hide behind Merricat's magical wards until their long-lost cousin Charles arrives and nothing will ever be the same. The dark, harrowing psychological thriller explores the social and psychological implications of societal ostracisation.
