What Time Is It There?
The Garden Cinema, Parker Street 39-41, WC2B 5PQ London, Holborn
About
A film screening by Tsai Ming-liang, made in Taiwan and France in 2001, reuniting the director with Lee Kang-sheng alongside Chen Shiang-chyi and Lu Yi-ching. Hsiao-kang, a watch vendor in Taipei, sells a dual-time watch to Shiang-chyi before she leaves for Paris. As she wanders the unfamiliar city alone, Hsiao-kang becomes fixated on Paris, watching Truffaut's The 400 Blows and resetting clocks across Taipei to Paris time. Across the two cities, their solitary lives unfold in parallel, mirroring each other through absence, chance encounters and quiet gestures of connection.
