About
An evening-length concert performing Ross Gay's book-length poem "Be Holding," with music and video art. Curated by Hanif Abdurraqib as part of his poetry series honoring June Jordan's legacy, it draws on the poem's love song to basketball legend Julius "Dr. J" Erving, connecting his famous 1980 baseline scoop shot to Black flight and joy. The score by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Tyshawn Sorey is performed by quartet Yarn/Wire, directed by Brooke O'Harra, with text recited by Gay and poet David Gaines and video by Catching on Thieves and Matt Deinhart.
