About

A screening of selected digitized broadcasts from Chinese Cable Television, a community-run station in Manhattan's Chinatown that broadcast in Cantonese from 1976 to 1983. The footage, drawn from the Asian CineVision Records at NYU's Special Collections, includes coverage of the 1980 Silver Palace Restaurant strike, a boycott campaign against the film Charlie Chan: The Curse of Dragon Queen, and the 1982 garment workers' rally that mobilized over 20,000 Chinese immigrant women. The program was curated by Koel Chu and is co-sponsored by NYU Special Collections. After the screening, documentary filmmaker and former CCTV producer Nancy Tong will join a conversation.
