About
A screening of the 1945 film "Brief Encounter," directed by David Lean. It follows an affair between a middle-class couple (Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard) inconveniently married to other people, their love and agony growing over seven meetings and departures that begin with a chance encounter in a railway station buffet. With never-better Noël Coward dialogue and a Rachmaninoff theme that grows insuperably sad with repetition, it is one of the great screen romances, full stop.
