Renée Cox: Take A Good Look

Renée Cox: Take A Good Look

Ethan Cohen Gallery, West 19th Street 251, 10011 New York, Manhattan

About

Take A Good Look is a solo exhibition at Ethan Cohen Gallery's Chelsea location, opening with a reception and running through October 31. The Jamaican-American photographer Renée Cox shows works from the early 1990s to the present, tracing over three decades of her photography, self-representation, and the politics of the image. Placing her own body at the center of pictures she has historically been excluded from, she reworks visual languages of Western art, Christianity, colonialism, and popular culture, from Yo Mama's Last Supper to the Queen Nanny of the Maroons and Soul Culture series. The show opens alongside the gallery's solo presentation of Cox at The Armory Show in New York.
