Cecilia Vicuña: Living Threads
Lehmann Maupin, West 24th Street 501, 10011 New York, Manhattan
About
An extensive exhibition spanning six decades of work by Cecilia Vicuña, a Chilean-born artist, poet, and feminist activist. It is the first major UK exhibition of her practice, which dissolves boundaries between visual art, poetry, performance, ritual, and activism across painting, textile, photography, installation, and film. A dedicated display covers Artists for Democracy, the organization Vicuña co-founded in London in 1974 in solidarity with Chile and other liberation struggles. Her work reflects experiences of exile, displacement, and political violence, and draws on indigenous Chilean culture, quipus, and her fragile precarios sculptures.
