About
A talk in the series The Artists Roundtable, an international forum for leading practitioners hosted by Tamsin Dillon of the School of Visual Arts' MA Curatorial Practice faculty. Its guest is Candace Hill-Montgomery, an American multidisciplinary artist, writer, poet, photographer, and educator whose work spans photography, collage, sculpture, installation, performance, painting, artist books, and weaving, engaging with race, feminism, environmentalism, poverty, political violence, and Black cultural history. She will guide the audience through the trajectory of her practice, from early works built from found objects foraged from torn-down buildings and detritus discovered in unknown towns, painted over and cleaned up to create new built environments, of which sometimes only her photographs remain. The talk looks at how her practice has grown and changed, how vital being an educator has been, and the impact it has on her own work.
