Octopus & Others: Acts of Collaboration & Poetics is a group exhibition at El Museo del Barrio centered on Papo Colo's 1982 participatory sculpture Octopus: An Act of Sculpture, recently gifted panels of which are shown for the first time in over four decades. Artist Melvin Edwards is among the exhibiting artists; the project Colo staged brought together artists and poets from New York's uptown and downtown scenes, including Nicholasa Mohr, Pedro Pietri, Vito Acconci, Tehching Hsieh, and Juan Sánchez. The exhibition explores collaboration between artists and poets, artworks that embrace and subvert the book form, and responses to social, political, and environmental concerns through collection works, archival materials, and select loans.
