'Credit to the Nation': Eastern European Jewish Immigrants and American Banking
Park Avenue Synagogue, East 87th Street 50, 10128, Manhattan
$360–375
About
A class at Park Avenue Synagogue exploring a lost chapter in New York, Jewish, and banking history: how Eastern European Jewish immigrants transformed American banking. Taught by Dr. Rebecca Kobrin, the Russell and Bettina Knapp Associate Professor of American Jewish History at Columbia University and author of 'Credit to the Nation: Eastern European Jewish Immigrant Bankers and the Shaping of American Finance, 1873–1930'. Beyond Goldman Sachs and Lehman Brothers, it looks at how these immigrants financed the immigration, real estate, and banking systems that still power New York. It is part of a class series with sessions on October 20 and November 3 and 10, held on 87th Street and online.
