Electra, My Love
The Metrograph, Ludlow Street 7, 10002 New York, Manhattan
About
A radically original retelling of the Ancient Greek myth of Electra, set against the backdrop of Hungary's vast, muddy plains. Director Miklós Jancsó reworks the tale of Electra and her ill use at the hands of Aegisthus, who loved her mother and murdered her father 15 years ago, in a hypnotic meditation on tyranny and rebellion. Its 71-minute runtime is made up of only twelve intricately composed shots.

Critics
6.9Good
Critics admire the hypnotic long takes, balletic choreography and its bold allegory of tyranny and revolution. Some fault the repetition of the director's familiar themes and symbolism that can feel overblown and theatrical.
