Every Contact Leaves a Trace: The Poetic Movements of Lynne Sachs
The New School, Manhattan

About
An evening with filmmaker Lynne Sachs presenting her film 'Every Contact Leaves a Trace', part of a monthly documentary series with film and video makers at The New School. The essay film takes its title from a forensic science principle coined by Edward Locard: any trace can link a person to a place, another person or an object. Sachs, who has saved every business card ever given to her, selects seven cards from hundreds and seeks out how each encounter left an imprint on her, from a German woman grappling with her country's history to a therapist who erased all records of her own life. Carrying the cards to a forensic scientist's lab, she entwines emotional memory with geopolitical history through visual abstraction, music, and a poet's introspection.
