About

Greening Queens: Tree Planting Demonstration is a hands-on workshop in which participants plant young trees along a block in Central Queens, learning to plant, mulch, and water. It is hosted by Partnerships Academy in collaboration with NYC Parks' Stewarding Canopy and Community in Central Queens (SCCCQ) project, with Genevieve Moralez, Greening Central Queens stewardship coordinator at NYC Parks, and her team demonstrating the techniques. Attendees then work in small groups to plant trees and learn how to care for local street trees, with coffee, water, and snacks provided and a raffle for prizes. SCCCQ is also giving away 100 trees this fall to residents of Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, and Corona, who can pick one up and bring it to the workshop to learn how to plant it.
