Hermione Lee on her biography of Anita Brookner.

A lecture and conversation open to the public, held in the Members' Room and online, about Hermione Lee's biography of the novelist Anita Brookner. Lee, a biographer and emeritus professor of English literature at Oxford, portrays Brookner as a formidable, witty, and private writer who was also a celebrated art historian and the author of twenty-five novels, including the Booker Prize-winning Hotel du Lac. The book weaves together Brookner's life and work, showing her as the inventor of her lonely heroines rather than their mirror image.
