Heuss Lecture General Seminar: Manuela Boatca

The Heuss Lecture General Seminar: Manuela Boatca is an annual lecture hosted at The New School, presented by the Executive Dean's Office of The New School for Social Research. Speaker Manuela Boatca presents her lecture "Otherwise Modern Subjects: Enslaved Roma in the Making of European Romania." Drawing on Michel-Rolph Trouillot's notion of 'the otherwise modern', she connects two mid-nineteenth-century uses of the name 'Romania' and discusses parallels between global regimes of enslavement and their mobilization for white nationalist projects within a transatlantic dialogue on slavery and abolition. The event is free and admission is by registration.
