About
DOUGLASS: THE RECKONING: A WORKING PROCESS is a performance project in development, presented as a town hall that invites audiences into the making of a new work. It centers on Frederick Douglass and the unfinished argument over American democracy, asking who "we" is in "We the People" and who gets to speak. It was conceived and directed by Charlotte Brathwaite and created in collaboration with June Cross, Nia O. Witherspoon, Alexis Marcelo, artists from IMPACT Repertory Theatre, and students from The New School's School of Drama. The event is free and open to the public, RSVP is required, and light snacks will be provided.
