icchā: contemporary kathak dance by Barkha Patel.

icchā is a contemporary kathak dance work with original music, set design and the Gujarati folk form garba. Choreographed by barkha patel and performed with an ensemble cast, it follows Barkha, who is visited in a dream by her maternal ancestors and chosen to express and fulfill their unfulfilled desires. The work confronts the body as a site of ancestral history, asking who we carry within us and what unfinished longing lives in our bodies. Culture Lab LIC, a Western Queens arts organization based in a converted warehouse with galleries and a theater, hosts the performance.
