Introduction to Zen Training Weekend

Introduction to Zen Training Weekend is an immersive introductory retreat in Zen Buddhism, held Friday through Sunday, October 30 to November 1, 2026. It is led by Geoffrey Shugen Arnold, Roshi, Danica Shoan Ankele, Sensei and Gokan Bonebakker, Osho of the Mountains and Rivers Order at Zen Mountain Monastery. Over the weekend, participants receive instruction in zazen (seated meditation) and experience liturgy, work as sacred activity, art and body practice, and the teachings of wisdom and compassion, with guidance on establishing a home practice and bringing mindfulness into work, family and relationships, including a private interview with a teacher. The retreat takes place within the Monastery cloister in the heart of the Catskill Mountains, and is a prerequisite for attending a sesshin or becoming a formal MRO student.
